10 Tips to Add Gratitude To Your Daily Routine
November means taking a moment to reflect on all we have to be thankful for. However, we should remember to practice gratitude all year long!
Adding gratitude into your daily routine, even in your place of work, can uplift your mood and improve your overall well-being! Here are some simple practices:
- Morning gratitude: Take a few minutes after you wake up to think of three things you're grateful for. This could be as simple as a good night's sleep or the sunshine outside!
- Take a mindful gratitude walk: Go for a short walk, paying attention to your surroundings and finding things to appreciate, like nature, the weather, the sights around you. If you're at work, step outside or take a short walk around the office. Focus on things you're grateful for such as the people, your favorite coffee, or just the break itself!
- Express appreciation to colleagues: Send an email or thanking a coworker who helped you recently or made your day easier.
- Keep a gratitude journal: Dedicate a few minutes a day, maybe at lunch or at the end of the day to jot down things that went well. Writing things down reinforces your gratitude practice and can help you end your day on a positive note.
- Keep a gratitude gar on your desk: Add a small note about something you are grateful for each day. Over time, this becomes a powerful collection of blessings to revisit.
- Set a reminder on your phone: Schedule a daily reminder on your phone to pause and think of one thing you're grateful for. This can help incorporate gratitude even on a busy day.
- Gratitude board: If you're in an office, start a physical gratitude board where people can leave notes about things they're grateful for. If remote, try a virtual gratitude space on your team's communication platform.
- Practice gratitude breathing: Take a few moments wherever you are in your day to close your eyes, take deep breaths, and think of things or people you're grateful for. This can be especially helpful during stressful moments.
- Gratitude inventory: Take a few minutes and look into your closet or around your home and notice what you are thankful for. Take inventory of clothes, food, favorite objects, people, pets, etc. It's a great way to be mindful of all of your blessings.
- Reflect Before Bed: Before you sleep, mentally review the day and pick one thing you're thankful for. This can create a sense of positive closure to your day.
By incorporating these simple steps into your routine, gratitude will become a habit to improve your wellbeing throughout the year.
