A Leadership Style: Michelle Jacobs
A Leadership Style: Michelle Jacobs
Meet Michelle Jacobs, the Co-founder of Womaness, and learn about her journey in building a Women's Lifestyle Brand. We are inspired by Michelle’s career journey, her core values, and her motivation to help women feel unstoppable at any age.
Michelle built the foundations of her career at Time Inc. with Real Simple Magazine, INStyle, and Joy Mangano at HSN, where she worked to help grow these businesses through creating successful women’s lifestyle brands. After gaining valuable experience and knowledge, Michelle pursued an MBA at NYU Stern School of Business, followed by working at Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, where she sharpened her expertise in the healthcare industry.
However, Michelle wanted more out of her career so she decided to leave her dependable corporate job to start her own company- Womaness. At Womaness the mindset is that every woman deserves modern, innovative products, essential information, and unlimited inspiration that helps take the “pause” out of menopause and spark a radiant, dynamic outlook that embraces who and where you are today, what we call menopositivity . All of her products are sold through e-commerce, not only on her website but through huge retailers such as Ulta Beauty and Amazon. Womaness has been critically acclaimed for its focus on women through their menopause years and Forbes Magazine stated “The don’t ask/don’t tell mentality underlying menopause… is disheartening because so many people needlessly suffer alone. Thanks to companies like Womaness, the tide is turning…”
So what helped Michelle turn that tide? Her drive and her investment in the people around her. Her biggest advice to young women who are starting out in their careers and wondering which path to take, is to work hard and show your network you are accountable, curious, and involved. It’s important to think about how you are building your work network as these are the people you will count on throughout your career. Michelle’s team at Womaness means the world to her and she makes sure to invest in her team and her network so that Womaness can continually grow!
To help give back and expand the reach of her community, Womaness also has a private Facebook page called The After Party. Due to the fact that so many women don’t know what is happening to their bodies as they age and find physicians to be unhelpful, women rely on each other for advice, tips, information and support. This portal can help offer women support and a safe space to connect. Womaness also has a partnership with the Mayo Clinic and last year gave a donation to help fund women's health research. The mission of Womaness is to continually give back to their community throughout the life of their brand.
Michelle’s inspirational journey of starting Womaness is a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and her mission to create a brand that changes lives for the better. We can all learn from her drive to start her own company, her wellness priorities and her commitment to the community around her. We thank her for her work and dedication to the field of wellness, and Womaness for their commitment to women’s empowerment.
“A Leadership Style” is a column authored by WISe Wellness Guild founder Stevi Gable Carr and powered by Crunchmaster Crackers aimed at celebrating female leaders who have advanced in their careers because they have integrated work and life through whole-self wellness.
