Individual Psychotherapy
We use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to address a range of problems, including depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship issues, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is scientifically proven to be effective for these problems and many research studies indicate that CBT leads to noticeable improvement in symptoms and quality of life. CBT is often as effective as - or more effective than - medications or other types of treatment.
CBT focuses on your current life situation and is founded on the idea that psychological problems stem from learned patterns of unhelpful thinking and behaving; if we learn to change these patterns, we will experience relief. CBT is a time-limited approach in which we help you gain mastery over the therapeutic techniques so that you learn to be your own therapist and apply the techniques to multiple life problems. To that end, we believe that much of the “therapy” actually occurs outside of the therapy session and provide homework assignments for you to complete between sessions.
