WISe Words on Skin Health
Hi there! This is Dr. Gina, Physician in Residence for the WISe Wellness Guild. I'm here to give my two cents on skin health and... AGING (ugh).
We're conditioned to dread this word in a culture where emphasis and maintenance of youth is pervasive. The other day, one of my patients said to me, "Doctor, I don't mind getting older, I just don't want to look like it!" Touche, my friend.
Whether you're 22 or 72, your skin is your largest organ, and it deserves attention!
This is why I always say that skincare IS healthcare.
The bad news: Your skin changes with age. It becomes more thin, looking less plump and smooth. Underlying blood vessels and bony structures become more prominent. Your skin can take longer to heal when injured.
The good news: It is NEVER too late to start taking care of your skin!
The most most most important advice I can give is to wear your sunscreen!!!
Sunscreen is important during every season because you need protection from both the sun (even in winter) and also your actual screens. Yes, our computers and phones release blue UV light, which can contribute to damage.
Your prescription from Dr. Gina: You guessed it. Wear your sunscreen, on your face at the very least. In the summer, find SPF clothing to protect your body. You need SPF. Every day. Get it. 😀
