Meet Latisha Owens, Founder and President of Guiding Light Mentoring!
Latisha Owens
Tell us a little bit about yourself...
I am the Founder & President of Guiding Light Mentoring, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving youth ages 8-18 in the Greater Cincinnati area by embracing youth from diverse backgrounds and providing the tools necessary to improve decision making, increase confidence and attain resilience. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, cooking and trying new experiences.

What is the most important thing you do for your wellness?
The most important thing I do for wellness is create a healthy balance between work and my personal life. I make it point to keep my office hours of 8am-5pm during the week and to not take any work calls or texts outside of those hours. I was able to purchase a work phone to help with this balance!

What is one piece of advice you'd give to others?
One piece of advice I would give to others is to learn to choose yourself. It's okay to say no. By saying no, you are saying yes to something in your life!

What is one quote/ mantra you live by?
One quote/mantra I live by is to give yourself your grace. We are not perfect, and we all make mistakes. The important thing is to forgive yourself, learn from your mistakes, and try not to repeat the same behavior.

Brag on yourself- what is something you are REALLY proud of?
Something I am really proud of is starting Guiding Light Mentoring in 2014. I felt a calling from God to start the organization and in my obedience to God and with His help, I started the organization with just 5 mentors and 5 mentees and no budget. I used my own money to initially fund the organization. There have been many long days and nights, and doubt has crept in, but I thank God I didn't give up! I enjoy what I do and I couldn't imagine doing anything else!
